court packing bill cartoon

President Franklin D. Roosevelt succeeded in the passage of many of his New Deal legislation proposals during the Great Depression. However, the U.S. Supreme Court posed a roadblock to many of his programs – declaring a number of his programs unconstitutional. So, President Roosevelt proposed a plan to re-structure the Supreme Court in an attempt to influence future decisions.

The attached activity includes two primary sources 1) quotation from FDR, and a 2) political cartoon regarding the Court-packing bill. The activity provides students an opportunity to analyze and evaluate sources while answering questions.
